What to do about inappropriate behaviour

Inappropriate behaviour is a broad term. It is behaviour by other people that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Think of sexual harassment, aggressive behaviour or bullying.

At BV Gaasperdam we do not tolerate inappropriate behaviour around or during badminton at our club. Not from our own members, and not from members of other sports clubs, parents, supporters, trainers and/or passers-by in the sports hall either.

We have no indication of inappropriate behaviour within our club. Still, we want to pay attention to this subject on this page, because saying that you do not tolerate it is no guarantee that it will never happen.

Confidential advisor

Iris van Schaïk – van Vlijmen is our confidential advisor. In this message she introduces herself (translated from Dutch):

Hi everyone,

My name is Iris van Schaïk – van Vlijmen. I am 28 and live in Mijdrecht with my husband and our 2 sons (Levi, 3, and Liam, 10 months).

I work as a coach/team leader and personal support worker in care for people with disabilities. I have enjoyed doing this for over 10 years.

I have been playing badminton for over 13 years, and this season is my 3rd year at BV Gaasperdam.

Both personally and professionally, the role of confidential advisor interested me. Since I was young I have enjoyed helping other people (young & old) and offering a listening ear. I also think it is important that everyone in a club feels as safe as possible, can really be themselves, and treats every other person with respect!

I hope it will never be necessary for me to talk to anyone at the club about this, but if it is, I am happy to help!

You can talk to me in the hall, or send an email to iris.van.vlijmen @ hotmail.com (without spaces) or a WhatsApp message to:
zero six 28 12 31 24

Please do not call, because of work and private life.

Best wishes,
Iris van Schaïk – van Vlijmen
